Ugadi or Yugaadi marks the beginning of the traditional New Year as per the Hindu Lunisolar calendar system.
It is celebrated primarily in Andhra Pradesh,Telangana and Karnataka states of India. In Maharashtra it is celebrated as Gudi Padwa. The celebrations symbolically combine all flavours – sweet, sour, salty, bitter in the form of Jaggery, Neem, Pepper, Mango & Tamarind - signifying that one must expect all flavours of experiences in the coming new year and make the most of them. Buying gifts & ornaments and giving charity to the poor are some of the important practices of this day.
